Subsequent Skilled Regional (Residence) subclass 887 visa
Who needs this visa?
This visa is for people who have lived and worked in specified areas of regional Australia on an eligible visa.
This visa is a pathway to permanent residency and allows you to:
- Stay in Australia permanently
- Work and study anywhere in Australia
- Apply for Medicare
- Sponsor eligible relatives for permanent residence
- Travel in and out of Australia as many times as you want for 5 years
- Apply for Australian citizenship, if eligible
What are the requirements?
- Must hold one of the following eligible visas for at least 2 years at the time of application:
- subclass 489, 495, 496, 475 or 487 visa, or
- Bridging visa A or Bridging visa B, after having made a valid application for a subclass 489, 495 or 487 visa
- For at least 2 years, must have lived in:
- a regional or low-population growth metropolitan area if your eligible visa was sponsored by a state or territory, or
- a designated area of Australia if a family member sponsored you for your eligible visa
- For at least 12 months, must have worked full-time (minimum 35 hours per week) in:
- a regional or low-population growth metropolitan area if your eligible visa was sponsored by a state or territory, or
- a designated area of Australia if a family member sponsored you for your eligible visa
What is the application process?

Can I live anywhere in Australia on the subclass 887 visa?
Once you submit your 887 visa, you will be granted a Bridging Visa. The Bridging Visa will not come into effect until your current visa expires. You are required to continue abiding by all the conditions on your current visa.
Depending on the conditions imposed on your Bridging Visa, you may not be required to live in a regional or designated area of Australia if you have transitioned on to the Bridging Visa.
